DIY Soap Recipe with Avocado Oil: A Step-by-Step Guide
Avocado oil is gaining popularity in the soap-making community for its numerous skin benefits and luxurious feel. This article will guide you through creating a delightful cold process soap using avocado oil, providing a nourishing experience for your skin.
Avocado oil is rich in vitamins A, D, and E, making it a fantastic choice for skin care. It is known for its moisturizing properties and ability to penetrate the skin deeply, which can result in a softer, smoother feel. Additionally, avocado oil contributes to a creamy lather and adds a luxurious texture to the soap, making it a favorite among soap makers.
To create your own avocado oil soap, gather the following ingredients:
Ensure your workspace is clean and well-ventilated. Gather all ingredients and equipment. Wear safety gear to protect yourself from lye.
In a well-ventilated area, carefully measure 5 oz of sodium hydroxide. In a separate container, measure 7.2 oz of distilled water. Slowly add the lye to the water (never the other way around) while stirring until fully dissolved. Set aside to cool.
In a large pot, combine your coconut oil, olive oil, palm oil, castor oil, and avocado butter. Heat gently until melted and fully combined. Allow the oil mixture to cool to about 110-120°F.
If using fresh avocado, blend 3 oz of avocado pulp with a small amount of distilled water (about 1.5 oz) until smooth. Set aside.
Once both the lye solution and oils are at a similar temperature (ideally within 10 degrees of each other), slowly pour the lye solution into the oils. Use a stick blender to mix until you reach a thin trace.
Add the avocado puree and any colorants (spirulina powder, French green clay) to the mixture. Blend until fully incorporated. Then, add the essential oil and blend again.
Pour the soap batter into your silicone mold, concentrating the batter in the center to create a peak. Use a spoon or spatula to shape the top as desired, and sprinkle poppy seeds for decoration.
Cover the mold and allow the soap to sit undisturbed for 24 hours. After this period, unmold the soap and cut it into bars. Allow the bars to cure in a cool, dry place for 4-6 weeks before using.
Making soap with avocado oil is not only fun but also results in a luxurious product that your skin will love. With its moisturizing properties and creamy lather, avocado oil enhances the overall quality of your handmade soap. Follow this guide to create your own unique bars, and enjoy the benefits of this fantastic oil in your skincare routine! Happy soaping!
