Scoopable Wax Recipe Using Coconut Oil
Coconut oil has become a popular ingredient in many DIY projects, particularly in the creation of scoopable wax melts. These delightful wax melts not only fill your home with wonderful fragrances but are also easy to use and customize. In this article, we will walk you through a simple recipe for making scoopable wax using coconut oil, answering some key questions along the way.
Scoopable wax is a unique form of wax melt that can be easily scooped out of a jar and used in wax warmers. Unlike traditional wax melts that come in solid shapes, scoopable wax allows for more flexibility in usage. You can control the amount you use, making it a favorite among wax melt enthusiasts.
Coconut oil serves a vital role in the scoopable wax recipe. It softens the wax, allowing it to be easily scooped out of the jar. The ideal ratio for making scoopable wax is typically around 30% coconut oil to 70% wax. This balance ensures that the wax remains soft while maintaining its ability to hold fragrance effectively.
To make approximately 250g of scoopable wax, you will need the following ingredients:
Start by weighing out the wax and coconut oil. Combine them to total 230g (161g of wax and 69g of coconut oil).
Fill a pan halfway with cold water and place it on the stove. Set your melting pot on top. Heat the mixture on medium-low until it fully melts and reaches a temperature of no more than 75°C.
While the wax and coconut oil are melting, weigh out 20g of your chosen fragrance oil. If you're using mica powder, mix a small amount with the fragrance oil to prevent clumping.
Once the wax has melted, remove it from the heat and let it cool to about 65°C. Add the fragrance oil and mica powder mixture, stirring continuously for about 90 seconds.
If desired, add 6 drops of liquid dye and stir for another 10-20 seconds. Allow the mixture to cool to 55-60°C before pouring it into your jar. Optionally, sprinkle some biodegradable glitter on top for a decorative finish.
Allow your scoopable wax to set for about 2-3 hours before putting on the lid. For optimal fragrance release, let it cure for about 7 days before use.
Using scoopable wax is straightforward. Simply scoop out a portion with a spoon and place it in your wax warmer. Enjoy the fragrance until it dissipates, and then add more as desired.
Making scoopable wax using coconut oil is a fun and rewarding project that allows you to customize fragrances and colors to suit your preferences. With just a few ingredients and some simple steps, you can create your own delightful wax melts that will fill your home with beautiful aromas. Whether you're looking to enhance your own space or create gifts for friends and family, this scoopable wax recipe is sure to impress!
