ABV Coconut Oil Recipe: A Comprehensive Guide
Coconut oil has become a popular choice for infusing with various herbs, particularly cannabis. When combined with Already Been Vaped (ABV) material, it creates a potent oil that can be used in a variety of recipes. This article will guide you through the process of making ABV coconut oil, answering key questions and providing tips for optimal results.
ABV, or Already Been Vaped cannabis, is the leftover material from your dry herb vaporizer. While it may seem like waste, ABV still contains cannabinoids that can be extracted and used in cooking or topical applications. When infused with coconut oil, it creates a versatile product that can be used in edibles, topical treatments, or as a supplement.
Coconut oil is an excellent carrier for cannabinoids due to its high fat content. The fat molecules in coconut oil bind well with cannabis compounds, making it an effective medium for infusion. Additionally, coconut oil has a mild flavor that complements many recipes, making it a popular choice for cooking.
To make ABV coconut oil, you will need the following:
While ABV is already decarboxylated to some extent, additional heating can enhance its potency. Fill your crockpot with water and set it to high. Grind your ABV to a fine consistency, similar to finely ground coffee, and place it in a mason jar. Seal the jar and float it in the crockpot. Allow it to heat for 4 hours, gently tumbling the jar every 30 minutes to ensure even heating.
After decarboxylating your ABV, it’s time to melt the coconut oil. Pour 8 oz of coconut oil into the crockpot and set it to medium-high heat. Stir until the oil is completely melted.
Once the coconut oil is melted, carefully add the decarboxylated ABV to the oil. Stir well to ensure that the ABV is evenly distributed throughout the oil.
Allow the ABV and coconut oil mixture to simmer for 3 to 6 hours. The longer you simmer, the more potent your oil will be. Stir the mixture occasionally to promote even infusion. Keep in mind that this step can produce a strong odor, so ensure proper ventilation.
After simmering, it’s time to strain the oil. Place a cheesecloth over a colander or strainer set over a clean mason jar. Pour the hot oil through the strainer to separate the plant material from the oil. Squeeze the cheesecloth to extract as much oil as possible.
To improve the flavor and clarity of your infused oil, you can perform a water wash. Add room temperature water to the strained oil and stir. Refrigerate overnight, then remove the solidified oil layer from the top and discard the water. Repeat this process once or twice for best results.
ABV coconut oil can be used in a variety of ways:
